Hello everyone.
I would like to thank all of you for the valuable information you have provided here.
I have just ordered my Onda V975M tablet from Geekbuying (hopefully will be shipped before Chinese holidays) and I am excited to learn more about it and anxious to receive it.
This is not the best time to buy tablet, I think...
- The Rokchip RK3188 & Allwinner A31 models are flooding the market, and various manufacturers keep releasing new models based on them (like Vido, which is releasing the M* line) but to a fair extent they leave much to be desired.
Also taking into account the relatively short support period with firmware fixes and Android OS updates, I don't think these models are a recommended buy...furthermore, their prices do not really decrease much as new models are being released...paradoxically their prices keep increasing...it is costlier now to buy a RK3188/A31 tablet than it was on September and October...
- The Intel models are causing quite a hype, they have good performance and generally regarded as more reliable, but unfortunately all tablets released up to now belong to the smaller size category...and they are a little on the pricey side, surely the 9,7" and 10.1" tablets will be quite pricier.
But it also messes with the "experience" of buying Chinese products, doesn't it?
- The much awaited RK3288 and A80 Optimusboard tablets were due to arrive in early 2014 (in fact some model names circulated, Vido M12 with Rokchip and Teclast T97 Air with Allwinner), but I have contacted a couple on reputable online shops and they said they don't expect availability before the end of April the earliest, which means they might start pre-selling at that time, and people won't be getting their tablets before mid-to-late May or early June...
Too much waiting for me...if they were to start preselling in February or early March, I might have waited patiently.
- The Amlogic M802 has been much overdue...it's release is quite late really...also, I have inquired Pipo about possibly releasing an Amlogic tablet and said they have no such info...which means the chipset won't be getting much love from other reputable manufacturers like Pipo and Vido/Yuandao; it seems their ties to Rokchip are too strong.
So relying on just one manufacturer seems kind of risky, if it drops support, then that's it...on the other hand, if there is only one manufacturer with one or two Amlogic tablet models, this puts pressure on them to keep supporting the tablet, and it also makes the community less thinly spread across various manufacturers and models...
...so despite my reservations I went ahead and bought Onda V975M tablet...
I will be using it primarily as an ebook reader, secondly as an internet browsing device on the move and lastly for entertainment during travels or you know, for watching youtube videos while taking a shit or something...
I would have liked it to have bluetooth, but I am not that disappointed...I mostly wanted it in case I'd want to connect a BT keyboard in the future...since USB is the charging port, it would be nice not having to rely on it for other uses.
I was quite concerned when I learned about the mediocre battery life...for me this is of the utmost importance...I seriously considered cancelling the order....
I would like to read pdf papers and books for many hours on my tablet instead of using the noisy desktop or laptop...
Would be awesome if it came with 10000mAh battery (like the Vido N90 FHDRK I had my eyes on before), but what can you do?
I stopped worrying as much when I read the exhaustive review (chinese)...5 hours and 39 minutes playing HD 720p video at Maximum Brightness (Wifi Off) is not bad at all...with brightness on medium level I believe it will be satisfactorily autonomous.
But this is just one case, of course...
...I would love it if you guys could run a few scenarios to test the battery life
e.g.
- mixed usage scenario: Middle brightness, light browsing, youtube, pdf reading with Wifi on
- ebook scenario: mid-brightness..continuous usage of PDFs (with images and test), Wifi Off
- Video player scenario: HD Movie marathon with high brightness and hd movie playback.
I've already ordered now and have changed my mind about cancelling (hoping for firmware updates and improvements), so there is no turning back, but would be nice to know how everyone is doing...
Will run similar tests as soon as I get my hands on it...hopefully Geekbuying will send it before the chinese holidays and I'll receive it by mid-February...
I apologize for the long post in English...my French are just too rusty...maybe I'll try to work on it with you guys, but I wanted to be more fluent in my first post...
Cheers,
